individual psychotherapy

My approach to therapy is humanistic, transpersonal and integrative. I see you as a unique person with an individualized path to growth, healing and personal fulfillment. Humanistic Therapy helps you explore your feelings in an authentic space, find and use your strengths, connect with your true Self, and align with what is meaningful to you. Transpersonal Therapy acknowledges the presence of your soul, and helps you develop a deeper sense of awareness, connectedness, and creativity. I am also highly trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) if you are looking for that specific modality. I work most often with clients who struggle from trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. As a queer person myself, I also happily provide services to others in the LGBTQ+ community. There are two ways to work with me for individual psychotherapy, through my private practice and through Octave. Please note that all individual psychotherapy services are virtual only.

Private Practice

Although I am located in Los Angeles, I provide virtual services to anyone in the state of California. I offer both short-term and long-term psychotherapy services through my practice. Short-term therapy is typically more structured and helpful when you have specific treatment goals. Long-term therapy is more flexible and allows us to explore deeper. We start with a free 15-minute consultation to discuss whether I'm the right fit for you. If we decide to continue, we then schedule an initial intake appointment, where we get to know each other better and develop a tentative treatment plan for you. After that we have the freedom to schedule how and when we desire. My private practice is currently out-of-pocket and out-of-network. To schedule an initial consultation with me, please contact me at therapy@drmimipsyd.com or 619-393-1992.

Octave

In addition to my private practice, I work with Octave Behavioral Health. At Octave, I am in-network with Aetna, Anthem, MHN, Healthnet and UMR(United) commercial insurance plans. If you have coverage under one of these plans, please visit findoctave.com to schedule an appointment.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine has been historically used as a medical anesthetic, and many know it only as “a tranquillizer.” However, there are multiple years of scientific research supporting its psychological use, primarily for people with treatment-resistant depression or suicidality. It has since been used to treat other conditions such as chronic pain, anxiety, OCD, and trauma. Ketamine is the only legally-available medicine in the field of Psychedelic Medicine.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) refers to the process of utilizing ketamine treatments in conjunction with psychotherapy. Therapists who conduct KAP have specialized training in this modality as it involves navigating psychedelic effects of the medicine. Ketamine can provide an opportunity for healing by temporarily softening our psychological defenses, allowing us to access material in our psyche and gain clarity. This can be a powerful catalyst for change.
KAP includes working with a trained mental health professional during preparation, medicine and integration sessions. Preparation involves setting a clear intention for your journey and learning how to navigate any potential states of consciousness you may experience. Your KAP therapist may also be present with you during your medicine journeys to help ground and hold a safe space. Integration involves processing your ketamine experiences, integrating new insights into tangible change, and making changes last.
I am currently a KAP provider alongside the qualified team at Kadima Neuropsychiatry. Please visit our website below to learn more and see if this treatment feels right for you. You may also email info@kadimanp.com or call 858-412-4130.

psychedelic integration

Psychedelic Medicine is an expanding field and thus many people are seeking psychedelic healing experiences. Though psychedelic medicines have been used for centuries in non-Western and indigenous cultures, many of these medicines are still highly regulated in the US. Due to these laws and regulations, I am not able to provide, condone or assist in the use of illegal substances.
However, if you are using psychedelic medicines on your own or though other settings, I am professionally trained to provide psychedelic preparation and integration therapy (psychedelic integration for short). As discussed above with KAP, preparation involves setting a clear intention for your journey and learning how to navigate any potential states of consciousness you may experience. In this case, preparation is tailored specifically toward the medicine you are working with. Integration involves making meaning of your experiences, weaving insights back into your life, and taking valued action in line with your goals. Integration is highly recommended to maintain any gains experienced in a transformational psychedelic journey. Integration can range from one to several sessions based on your needs.
Working with a qualified mental health or medical professional is strongly suggested to ensure your safety in the pursuit of psychedelic healing. Without assistance and guidance from a trained provider, risks of physical and psychological harm increase, and there is documented evidence of harm done in unregulated environments. This is especially important to consider if you have a pre-existing mental health condition such as trauma, depression, or anxiety. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I am equipped to help you navigate this experience, promote psychological safety, and assist you in minimizing risk / maximizing benefit.
Through my private practice, I provide virtual psychedelic integration services to anyone in the state of California. Please note that my private practice is currently out-of-pocket and out-of-network. To schedule an initial consultation with me, please contact me at therapy@drmimipsyd.com or 619-393-1992.

PSYCHEDELIC CONSULTING

As ketamine-assisted therapy gains more recognition and other psychedelic treatments become available, people are naturally excited and creating new clinics, retreat centers, and other organizations to provide services and support this movement.

Psychedelic therapy is not a product - it is a complex process - and success requires depth, presence and detail orientation. The quality of a psychedelic experience depends on careful attention to many factors, including but not limited to: set, setting, community, support, intentionality, cultural humility, ethics, trauma-informed competence, groundedness, staff harmony, and staff embodiment.

Excitement about the field, demand for services, and the rush of momentum can lead to us missing certain details in our approach. Due to the nature of working with non-ordinary states of consciousness, missing these details can cause serious harm to clients. Additionally, training takes time, and it helps to have the support of someone with a complex, nuanced appreciation for this work.

Informed by my life experience with clinical psychology, psychedelic research, psychedelic therapy, retreat work, human resources, training, and creative design, I offer psychedelic consultation services to all in the psychedelic ecosystem. If you are interested in my consulting services, please contact me at drmimipsyd@gmail.com..
